Local paramedic awarded Cardiac Arrest Save Medal

Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic Samantha Pagan was awarded a Cardiac Arrest Save Medal after her actions helped save the life of a patient.

At 1:10 p.m. on October 6, 2021, MCFR Medic #59 was dispatched to the intersection of SW 19th Avenue Road and SW 24th Avenue in Ocala in reference to a life-threatening cardiac arrest call.

Pagan and her partner were en route to the scene within 18 seconds of dispatch, and they arrived within three minutes.

Upon arrival, Pagan observed an adult man on the ground. Bystanders were performing CPR and the man was not breathing.

Pagan quickly loaded the patient onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. During the three-minute ride to the hospital, she continued CPR and achieved the return of spontaneous circulation.

The patient was delivered to the hospital with the best possible outcome.
