The mayor of Belleview recently addressed residents in a letter that discusses multiple topics including community center improvements and upcoming events.
City mayor Christine Dobkowski voiced excitement about numerous improvements at Lake Lillian Park, especially the new murals on the community center’s walls which “turned out even better than expected.”
“Each is unique and meaningful to our little city with small town charm. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see these beautiful works of art, please visit Lake Lillian soon,” Dobkowski said.
The city is in the process of planning a soft opening for the community center on Wednesday, February 16. After this date, the community center will be available for weekend rentals.
The grand opening of the community center is planned on Saturday, April 2, and the day will begin with the annual fishing derby for children up to age 15. The tournament is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will end with an awards ceremony at the community center.
Once the community center is open full-time, Dobkowski stated that the city plans on hosting several city-run events for residents. Tentative ideas include reading and crafts for children, community luncheons, and activities for senior citizens.
Dobkowski encourages residents to attend this week’s Foodie Fest which is being held on Friday, January 28, beginning at 5 p.m. The event will feature numerous food trucks, family-friendly activities, and a live DJ.
At the end of her letter, Dobkowski highlighted recent growth in the city. Two new businesses have opened in Belleview: MiAmor Scents, Inc. (4849 SE 110th Street) and Village RV (12101 S U.S. Highway 441).
Construction is underway for several housing developments: Autumn Glen (SE 110th Street) and Bennah Oaks (located on Highway 484 by the library). A new storage facility is also planned on the corner of U.S. Highway 441 and SE 102nd Place.
The next regular Belleview City Commission meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1 at Belleview City Hall (5343 SE Abshier Boulevard).
