Marion County Spelling Bee taking place at Marion Technical Institute

Twenty-two middle school students from throughout Marion County will be putting their spelling prowess to the test next week.

The annual Marion County Spelling Bee is taking place inside the Browne Greaton Cole Auditorium at Marion Technical Institute (1614 E Fort King Street in Ocala) on Thursday, February 17 at 6 p.m.

This year’s competition features students from 10 public middle schools and one private middle school. Kevin Christian, the Public Relations Director for Marion County Public Schools, is returning as the word-caller.

Admission to the event is free and open to the public.

According to an MCPS media release, the district and regional spelling bees are preliminary rounds to reach this year’s Scripps National Spelling “Bee Week” which is being held in late May at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The final rounds will be nationally televised.
