Fine Arts for Ocala seeking artists for uplifting mural project at domestic violence shelter

Fine Arts for Ocala is looking for artists to participate in a mural project at a local domestic violence shelter.

The mural will be located on a wall in a porch-style recreation room inside the local shelter. This room will be utilized by the women and children that are seeking shelter.

The wall will be painted with a flat white paint serving as the base. Artists will have the freedom to feature a quote from a poem or a song with themes that focus on an uplifting message.

According to FAFO, the goal of this mural project is to transform the living space into a peaceful and caring environment. The murals should be happy, uplifting, inspiring, and colorful. In addition, the mural must avoid any political or social statements.

All artists will be chosen based off a preliminary sketch, resume, and examples of previous work. The mural is budgeted at $5,000 and artists will be compensated for their work.

Each artist will be responsible for providing their own materials, including paint, to complete their design. If an artist is traveling from out of the area, the artist will be responsible for any transportation or housing expenses.

Artists have a deadline of midnight on Monday, April 11 to apply. Anyone who is interested should send an email to FAFO at: fafoocala@gmail.com with the following information:

  • A current resume and/or bio with a phone number and email address.
  • 5 to 10 examples of recent work. Experience with mural paintings is preferred but not required.
  • A proposed budget for artist compensation and materials.
