Marion County schools report 49% drop in COVID-19 cases during last week of school

Marion County schools reported a 49% drop in positive COVID-19 cases during the last week of school.

The weekly COVID-19 report released by Marion County Public Schools shows that a total of 47 students and 8 employees tested positive for COVID-19 from February 19 to February 25.

According to the report, 37 students and 2 employees were forced to quarantine after having direct contact with those who tested positive.

Marion County schools have seen a steady decline in positive COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, and the numbers continue to move further away from the mid-January spike when over 1,000 students and employees tested positive.

The current report shows that 26 schools and district departments reported positive cases over the week, including 15 elementary schools.

In November of 2021, the Florida Department of Health announced that the COVID-19 vaccine is available for children between the ages of 5 to 11.

Marion County Public Schools announced in October of 2021 that face coverings are optional in all of the county’s public schools.
