Marion County Fire Rescue has deployed its Engine Company as part of a strike team to help combat the Bertha Swamp Road Fire in the Florida Panhandle.
The 28,100-acre wildfire is approximately 10% contained, according to an update from the Florida Forest Service on Tuesday afternoon.
Gusty winds in the area have caused erratic fire behavior as the flames have been pushed through thick, dry, and dead trees and vegetation that were left behind from Hurricane Michael.
Numerous fire and emergency service departments have provided resources to help the Florida Forest Service wildland firefighters in their efforts to contain the wildfire.
In a statement on its Facebook webpage, the Florida Forest Service said, “We are truly grateful for all partners and their support in this fight. We will not back down.”
