Ocala resident voices concerns on dangerous drivers

To the Editor:

I sent an email several weeks ago to the Ocala Police Department about dangerous drivers with no response. My wife and I have witnessed around a dozen drivers, mostly pickup trucks, running the red light going east and westbound on SR 200 at 60th Street. We also witnessed five cars traveling westbound on SR 200 at 60th Street that blew through the red arrow in the two left turn lanes at the same time.

It doesn’t do any good for a police officer to sit in plain sight because the drivers just slow down while passing them before speeding back up. We need to have a police officer out of sight with a radar gun, radioing to other officers down the road with information on the speeders and red light runners to pull them over.

I appreciate what our police officers do for us, but Ocala has totally gotten out of control with speeders, red light runners, and dangerous lane-changing drivers. Something needs to be done.
