Summerfield woman arrested after stealing SUV, fleeing MCSO corporal in southeast Ocala

A 25-year-old Summerfield woman was arrested after she stole a vehicle and fled from a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal in southeast Ocala.

On Wednesday, the MCSO corporal was monitoring the law enforcement radio at the MCSO South Multi-District Office in Ocala when a report came in regarding a stolen Nissan SUV. The vehicle, which was traveling northbound on S U.S. Highway 441 from SE 92nd Loop, was about to pass the MCSO office.

The corporal stepped outside and was informed by a deputy that the stolen vehicle had driven by the office moments earlier. According to the MCSO report, the corporal entered a patrol car, headed eastbound on SE 73rd Street, and caught up to the stolen vehicle.

The corporal activated the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Karissa Danielle Anderson, refused to pull over and continued traveling eastbound.

Anderson turned left onto SE 41st Court and traveled at approximately 75 miles per hour, which was 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. She drove through the intersection at SE 41st Court and SE 52nd Street, and she continued traveling northbound onto SE 44th Avenue Road.

Anderson’s vehicle crossed SE Maricamp Road and she continued onto SE 44th Avenue Road through the curve where the road transitions to SE 38th Street. When she reached SE 58th Avenue, she turned left and approached the traffic light at SE 28th Street.

The MCSO report indicated that Anderson cut through the grass median to make a left turn, and she began traveling westbound on SE 28th Street.

Since Anderson was heading towards Maplewood Elementary School, the corporal attempted a P.I.T. maneuver which spun Anderson’s vehicle. She regained control and re-entered the roadway as she drove westbound towards the elementary school.

The corporal attempted a second P.I.T. maneuver. Anderson began to lose control of the vehicle, and she overcorrected which caused the vehicle to roll over near the 5400 block of SE 28th Street.

The vehicle came to a rest on its side. Anderson was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and she was taken into custody and later transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Multiple items had fallen out of the vehicle. Anderson’s purse was on the roadway, and it contained a clear plastic container that held two hypodermic needles. A pink pouch was inside the purse that was filled with a green leafy substance that later field-tested positive for marijuana.

A gold smoking pipe covered in residue was also found, and the residue field-tested positive for marijuana.

The vehicle’s owner spoke with the corporal and stated that the vehicle had been left in the area of SE 52nd Street and S Magnolia Avenue the previous night. The victim had been drinking and was too inebriated to drive.

At the hospital, Anderson told the corporal that she had located the vehicle in the middle of the road around SE 30th Court and SE 52nd Street. She stated that the keys were inside, and she took the vehicle to visit someone in Summerfield.

When asked why she did not stop when the corporal was behind her, she stated that she was scared.

Anderson was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $22,500 bond. She is facing felony charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer with injury or property damage.

She is also facing misdemeanor charges for driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana (not more than 20 grams), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
