To the Editor:

Whether in a rush because of running late, distracted, road racing, or high on drugs, callous individuals are increasingly putting themselves and everyone in Marion County at risk. Daily, friends and I encounter dangerous drivers blatantly running red lights in Marion County and cutting off other drivers, only inches away from a potentially fatal car accident. Running stop signs is terrible enough within the county; however, running red lights is becoming even more noticeably rampant throughout Marion County.

We fully understand there are not enough officers to catch and ticket all these individuals in the act to stop this reckless and deadly habit. With Marion County experiencing high growth which results in much heavier traffic, this problem will only worsen over time. We strongly feel a viable solution would be for the county to fund and institute an aggressive program of traffic light camera installations to begin issuing and mailing tickets to owners of photographed vehicles running red lights. This would provide the source of revenue needed for Marion County to fund the project while hopefully making Marion County streets safer for everyone.
