More residents across Marion County discuss topic of commercial flights

More residents across Marion County submitted letters to share their thoughts on the topic of bringing commercial flights to Ocala International Airport.

“I am 100% sure that having a commercial airport in Ocala would benefit all of our residents and save the time spent traveling to Orlando and Tampa’s international airports. I have been living in Ocala since 2001, and there has been a lot of talk about having a commercial airport in Ocala. Let’s do this now,” says Ocala resident Jorge Castillo.

“An airport with commercial flights in Ocala would be so much better than having to drive so far, especially since gasoline is so expensive. I do not like driving to Orlando. As I get older now, this would be great so I could fly back to visit my children more often,” says Virginia Bryant, Ocala resident.

“I would love to see commercial flights. It is very expensive to take a taxi to Orlando or Tampa. I don’t drive in the excessive traffic. I hope that it goes through. If someone doesn’t want it, then don’t use it,” says Anthony resident Karen Sears.

“I believe that all the people are paying taxes for this airport, and it should be expanded so we can all use it. Currently, I have to drive all the way to Orlando or Tampa to get an airplane ride back home to see my kids. It would be so nice to go right here in Ocala to do it. I probably would fly and go home a little more often. As far as the farms, I don’t see how it’s going to affect them any more than it’s already affecting them right now. I mean, people are just going to buy the land and build houses anyway. If we all pay taxes, then it should be for all of us, not just for the rich. I also hope that we expand and have a commercial airport,” says Terry Lucy, Ocala resident.
