John W. Welch

John “Jack” W. Welch, 71, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on April 29, 2022 in Leesburg, Florida.

He was born in Springfield, MA on May 16, 1950 to the late Edward and Mary (Hanigan) Welch. After graduating from the University of Houston, Jack proudly served in the US Army. He then received his Juris Doctor Degree from Western New England College School of Law in 1976. Jack practiced law in the Greater Springfield Area for over 40 years, including at Welch Barba. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and spending time with his family at Big Alum Pond in Sturbridge and in The Villages, FL. He was a communicant of St. Cecilia’s Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who put the needs of his family above all else.

Jack leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Ellen (Cuttita) Welch, his daughter Cassandra “Cassie” Arriaza and her husband Jorge of North Grafton, MA, his son Gregory “Greg” Welch and his wife Jamie of Colonie, NY, his grandson Sebastian John Arriaza, his brother Edward Welch and his wife Charmian of The Villages, FL, his twin sister Jane Marie Welch of Idaho Falls, ID, and sister Elaine Desaulniers and her husband John of Cross Hill, SC, along with several nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:30 AM in St. Cecilia’s Church, Main St., Wilbraham. Burial will follow in the St. Michael’s Mausoleum, 1601 State St., Springfield, MA. Calling Hours will be held Monday from 9 to 11 AM at the Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to St. Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, MA 01095.
