15-year-old girl killed in northeast Ocala crash

A 15-year-old girl was killed in a crash that occurred in northeast Ocala on Tuesday morning.

At around 5:15 a.m., Ocala Police Department officers responded to the intersection of NE 14th street and NE 25th Avenue due to reports of an accident. Upon arrival, they observed two vehicles that were involved in a collision: a Toyota Yaris and Mitsubishi Montero.

The driver and passenger inside the Yaris were both 15 years old, and the driver and sole occupant of the Montero was an adult.

According to OPD, the Yaris was traveling northbound on NE 25th Avenue, near the intersection at NE 14th Street. The Montero was stopped at the intersection in the inside southbound lane.

The Yaris proceeded to travel through the intersection, crossed over into the southbound lanes, and collided head-on with the Montero.

Both teenagers in the Yaris were transported to UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville. Approximately two hours after arriving at the hospital, the vehicle’s passenger, a 15-year-old girl, died as a result of her injuries. The 15-year-old driver is currently in stable condition.

No significant injuries were reported for the driver of the Montero.

The Ocala Police Department is currently investigating the crash.
