Marion County firefighters responded on Monday evening to reports of a large brush fire on Maricamp Road.
Shortly after 5:25 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 5000 block of SE Maricamp Road in reference to a large fire that was outside. When the first units arrived on scene at 5:29 p.m., the firefighters immediately requested additional units.

The firefighters observed piles of oak trees, pine trees, and mulch, covering over four acres, that were on fire.


According to MCFR, 18 units consisting of 27 firefighters were assigned to battle the flames. The crews have been working into the morning hours to contain the fire.

MCFR stated on social media that the firefighters have structural protection on the homes that are nearby.
The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
