A 41-year-old Florida man with several prior battery convictions was arrested after he allegedly grabbed and slapped a female victim inside a Marion County residence.
On Friday, May 6, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the female victim who stated that a physical altercation had occurred with Dale Patrick Shields, Jr.
The victim stated that she had come home from work after a family member had sent a text message to advise that Shields was “tipsy.” When the victim arrived at the residence, she began to speak with Shields about the air conditioning which needed to be fixed.
Shields allegedly became upset during the conversation and an argument ensued. She stated that she walked inside the residence and took a shower. After the shower, she advised that Shields entered the bathroom while she was getting dressed.
The argument continued and she stated that Shields was yelling at her. She told the deputy that he snatched an item of her clothing and “ripped it into pieces.” After this occurred, Shields left the bathroom and walked onto the back patio.
When the victim joined Shields on the patio, the argument resumed. According to the victim, Shields got “in her face” and she asked him to back up. He allegedly responded by saying, “I don’t care, I will hurt you in front of everyone.”
Shields then allegedly grabbed the victim by her hair and threw her into a patio chair. She stated that Shields then grabbed her hair and slapped her in the face.
The victim told the deputy that Shields continued to yank her hair and he also allegedly scratched her near her shoulder blade. Shields then left the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
A witness inside the residence told the deputy that Shields had yanked the victim’s hair and grabbed her face while on the back patio. The witness then ran inside and called law enforcement.
The MCSO report indicated that the victim’s back had numerous scratch marks near her left and right shoulder blades. Her jawline, near her ear on the left side, was also raised and swollen.
A criminal history search of Shields revealed that he had two prior felony convictions for battery in Manatee County. A warrant was issued for Shields’ arrest on Monday, May 9.
Shields was arrested on Sunday, May 15, and he was transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $5,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for battery (second or subsequent offense).
A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, June 14 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
