Plant City man arrested in Ocala after stealing relative’s vehicle

An 18-year-old Plant City man was arrested in Ocala after he was spotted behind the steering wheel of a stolen vehicle that belonged to one of his relatives.

On Thursday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol when a vehicle was observed which had been reported as stolen out of Plant City. The deputy conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle at the Burger King located at 1704 S Pine Avenue.

The vehicle’s driver was identified as 18-year-old Jonathon Michael Beck, and his girlfriend was sitting in the passenger’s seat.

According to the MCSO report, a search of the vehicle’s interior was conducted, and vape pens, drug paraphernalia, and less than 20 grams of marijuana were found.

An MCSO corporal contacted the Plant City Police Department to advise that the vehicle had been recovered. The corporal also spoke with the male victim who was the registered owner of the vehicle. The victim told the corporal that one of his relatives, Beck, had likely stolen the vehicle, and Beck had allegedly taken the vehicle on previous occasions to run away with his girlfriend.

The corporal made contact with Beck. He admitted that he went to the victim’s house on Wednesday and took the vehicle without permission. When asked why he took the vehicle, Beck confirmed that he was running away with his girlfriend.

Beck stated that the vape pens, paraphernalia, and marijuana belonged to him.

Beck was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $4,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for grand theft of a motor vehicle, along with misdemeanor charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana (less than 20 grams).

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
