A 33-year-old Hernando woman was arrested after she allegedly battered several members of the World Equestrian Center’s security team.

On Wednesday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the parking lot of the World Equestrian Center (1750 NW 80th Avenue in Ocala) due to reports that Taryn Nicole Varvel had battered several employees.

An MCSO deputy made contact with the male victims who were detaining Varvel in the parking lot. The victims are members of the WEC security team, and they stated that Varvel had been asked to leave the Yellow Pony bar after she allegedly punched a guest in the face.

The victims advised that Varvel continued to make a disturbance as they escorted her towards the parking lot. Once they reached the parking lot, the victims stated that Varvel became aggressive and battered them.

The deputy approached Varvel and ordered her to place her hands behind her back. The MCSO report indicated that Varvel did not comply with the request, and she punched the deputy in the chest.

When Varvel continued to ignore the deputy’s commands, the deputy escorted her to the ground. She continued to resist the deputy, but she was secured in handcuffs after a brief struggle.

A second MCSO deputy arrived on scene and spoke with the victims. The first victim advised that Varvel had become argumentative and aggressive in the parking lot. According to the first victim, Varvel headbutted him in the nose.

Both victims attempted to detain Varvel by bringing her to the ground. While on the ground, the first victim stated that Varvel headbutted him in the nose a second time.

The deputy then spoke with the second victim who stated that Varvel had punched him on the left side of his face. He also advised that Varvel continued to be physically aggressive with both victims while they were detaining her on the ground prior to the arrival of MCSO deputies.

According to the MCSO report, blood was dripping from the first victim’s nose and he had lacerations on his knee. When observing the second victim, the deputy did not see any visible injuries on his face, though the second victim stated that there was slight pain and swelling.

Medics treated both victims on scene and they declined any further medical treatment.

The guest from the Yellow Pony bar who was allegedly punched by Varvel did not want to pursue any criminal charges. The World Equestrian Center requested that Varvel be trespassed from the property.

Varvel was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Once she was medically cleared, she was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and she was later released on $12,000 bond.

Varvel is facing felony charges for resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer, along with two misdemeanor charges for battery.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
