At the beautiful age of 89, John R. Dykes had proudly served his Country, County and family in life. We are sad to say that he has now moved on to the next chapter. Johnny passed away on May 20, 2022 around 6:00 p.m. after battling with cancer.

He will be missed dearly by the many lives that he affected along the way.

Born in MacClenney, Florida on October 24, 1932 to Leo Wiley Dykes and Ada Belle Rhoden. Johnny lived and graduated in MacClenney, FL, straight out of high school he went on to attend the University of Florida. Shortly after graduating with his bachelors he served in the United States Army, he spent two years in Korea before completing his service in the states. Johnny moved to Salt Springs in the early 40’s and resided there in (the scrub) the Ocala National Forest for the rest of his long and virtuous life. He certainly loved as much as anyone to live life to the fullest. Squeezing wonderful memories out of every moment. In the 60’s Johnny began to serve Marion County as a Broker and advocate for good and affordable forest living. He created and developed many parcels throughout not only Marion County, but many other counties and states as well.

He found land in Tennessee, Arkansas, South Dakota and Colorado to name a few. In most cases, subdivided and developed along the way. Inviting many folks from all walks of life out to enjoy and experience his wonderer discoveries. He spent 52 years in a row without missing a single hunting season in Colorado. Bringing with him the greatest hunting spirit that anyone could ever imagine. He would welcome with open arms anyone who would to could show up for the hunt.

Johnny Dykes (Daddy-O) will without a doubt be missed by many. We can rest assured that he has touched the lives of so many, so dearly through sheer admiration and emulation. The way he lived has cast a light, setting an example of how extraordinary one man really can be. Johnny Dykes legacy will be alive for many years to come.
