HCA Florida West Marion Hospital announces new Chief Executive Officer

HCA Florida West Marion Hospital has announced the appointment of Peter Hemstead as Chief Executive Officer, effective today.

“As we expand access to healthcare in our community, Peter will be instrumental in spearheading that growth. I have confidence his commitment to excellence will offer key operational oversight for our healthcare teams and patients,” said Chad Christianson, Chief Executive Officer of HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.

Hemstead most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer at Riverside Community Hospital, an HCA Healthcare facility located in Riverside, California. Riverside Community Hospital has been recognized as a Top Performing Hospital with one of Riverside County’s only STEMI receiving centers, a fully accredited Chest Pain Center, and an accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Riverside Community Hospital also includes the HeartCare Institute, which offers invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures, a Comprehensive Transplant Program, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Prior to his time in Riverside, Hemstead served as the Chief Operating Officer at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota where he oversaw all major construction projects, quality, process improvement, and oversight of key operational areas. Before being promoted in his role at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Hemstead worked for Brandon Regional Hospital as an Assistant Administrator where he was selected to join the HCA Executive Development Program class of 2019.

Hemstead’s work history also includes the role of Director, Clinical Excellence at HCA Healthcare in Nashville where he led key quality initiatives in Cardiac Services, Women’s Services, OR, Sepsis Prediction, and Critical Care in several hospitals across the country.

Hemstead is also a veteran who served in the United States Coast Guard, conducting helicopter search and rescue. He earned his Bachelor of Science at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, and his MBA at Vanderbilt University.
