Ocala man killed in two-vehicle crash on U.S. 301 in Marion County

A 22-year-old man from Ocala was killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. 301 in Marion County on Friday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, a sedan and pickup truck collided on U.S. 301, just south of County Road 329, at around 1:50 p.m.

Based on the physical evidence and witness statements, the FHP report stated that the sedan, driven by the 22-year-old Ocala man, was traveling northbound on U.S. 301, near County Road 329, within the inside lane.

The pickup truck, driven by a 59-year-old man from Spring Hill, was traveling southbound in the outside lane on U.S. 301, just north of County Road 329.

For reasons that are unknown, the sedan’s driver lost control of the vehicle, and it traveled northbound across the center grassy median. When the sedan entered into the oncoming southbound lanes of traffic, the left side of the sedan struck the front of the pickup truck.

When Marion County Fire Rescue arrived on scene, the sedan’s driver was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released, per FHP policy.
