City of Ocala announces road closures for upcoming stormwater system installation

(Update on Monday, June 27: The City of Ocala has announced that the project timelines have been updated, and the road closures will be in effect beginning on Monday, July 11 through Friday, August 19.) 

Due to the installation of the stormwater system, road closures will be in effect in southeast Ocala beginning on Monday, June 13 through Friday, July 22.

The road closures are planned along SE Osceola Avenue (between SE 8th Street and SE 5th Street) and along SE 8th Street (between SE 1st Avenue and SE 3rd Avenue). All necessary devices will be in place to redirect traffic.

Construction will take place during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers may experience delays, noise, dust, and heavy equipment within the project area during these construction times.

The planned detour routes are listed below:

• Traffic heading westbound on SE 5th Street will be detoured onto S Magnolia Avenue.
• Traffic heading eastbound on SE 5th Street will be detoured onto SE 3rd Avenue.
• Traffic heading eastbound on SE 8th Street will be detoured to the south on Magnolia Avenue to SE Magnolia Avenue Ext., then detoured north on SE First Avenue, back to SE 5th Street, right onto SE 3rd Avenue, and back onto SE 8th Street.
• Traffic heading westbound on SE 8th Street will be detoured north on SE 3rd Avenue to SE 5th Street, then detoured west on SE 5th Street to S Magnolia Avenue, and back onto SW 8th Street.
