Marion County School Board seeking public’s opinion to name new Early Learning Academy

The Marion County School Board is seeking the public’s opinion to help name a new early learning academy that is opening in Ocala for the 2022-2023 school year.

The school, which is located at 4000 W Anthony Road on the campus of the former Evergreen Elementary School, will open its doors to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students in August.

There are eight possible names for the new school, and the public can click here to cast their votes by no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. The name possibilities include:

  • Bright Star Learning.
  • Bright Stars Early Learning Academy.
  • Bright Stars Elementary.
  • Brick City Early Learning Academy.
  • First Light Academy.
  • Fordham Early Learning Academy.
  • O.P.E. (Helping Our Pupils Excel) Academy.
  • Marion Early Learning Academy.

School board chairman Eric Cummings, vice-chairwoman Allison Campbell, and school board members Don Browning, Kelly King, and Nancy Thrower will vote on the final name at their next meeting on Tuesday, June 28. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in Marion Technical Institute’s Browne Greaton Cole auditorium located at 1614 E Fort King Street in Ocala.
