Rex the Squirrel, the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department’s new mascot and local ambassador, had fun meeting members of the community during this week’s Birthday Bash celebration.
On Wednesday, the Recreation and Parks Department hosted the family-friendly event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tuscawilla Park, which is located at 800 NE Sanchez Avenue.

There were outdoor activities, face painting, and the police department’s Polar Patrol was onsite to hand out frozen treats.

Rex made plenty of appearances throughout the event to interact with attendees and pose for pictures.

The month of July is National Parks and Recreation Month, a month-long celebration that highlights the impact of parks and recreation within the community.
When Rex the Squirrel was first announced, Ocala Recreation and Parks Director Preston Pooser stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Rex to the Ocala Rec and Parks team. Rex will be a great ambassador to our department while providing an opportunity to interact with children, tweens, and adults.”
