CareerSource CLM reports slight rise in June unemployment rate

The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion region rose slightly to 3.8% in June, a decrease of 2 percentage points from a year ago.

During the summer months, the region’s unemployment rate typically experiences a slight increase due to the seasonal shifts in education support and agriculture employment, along with an influx of post-secondary students who are returning to the area in search of work prior to returning to school.

According to the release of preliminary data by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, all but one of Florida’s 67 counties saw a rise in unemployment rates during the month of June. The lone exception was Miami-Dade County which saw a 0.1 percentage point drop in unemployment.

Levy County continued to hold the lowest unemployment rate (3.5%) in the region, followed by Marion County (3.6%) and Citrus County (4.4%). The rates in all three counties rose by 0.2 percentage points.

Across the three-county region, the labor force in June was 209,650, up 1,995 for an increase of 1 percentage point over the previous year. There were 7,935 unemployed residents in the region and 201,715 who were employed.

On Tuesday, July 26, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., CareerSource CLM is hosting a free Healthcare and Human Services job fair at One Health Center, which is located at 1714 SW 17th Street.

CareerSource CLM will also hold several additional hiring events, including a virtual one on Tuesday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for the University of Florida Veterinarian Hospitals in Marion and Alachua counties.
