MCPS in need of substitute teachers for 2022-2023 school year

As students return to classrooms for the start of the 2022-2023 school year, Marion County Public Schools is looking to fill substitute teaching positions.

Substitute teachers are essential to the day-to-day operations of MCPS, and they help to ensure that students receive instructional opportunities in the absence of their classroom teacher.

In order to qualify as a substitute teacher, candidates must have a high school diploma and five years of verifiable work experience, or an associate’s degree or 60 college semester credit hours.

In addition, candidates must have certified full-time teaching experience or a certificate of competition of the ‘Subskills Online Training Course (for Substitute Teachers)’ with a minimum score of 85%.

As of July 12, 2022, elementary school substitute teachers must be at least 20 years old, and substitute teachers at middle and high schools must be at least 22 years old.

According to MCPS, the salary for substitute teachers ranges from $117 to $142 per day:

  • Daily/regular substitutes will be paid on a daily basis as needed at a rate of $117 per day with no benefits.
  • Continuous or continuing substitutes (10 or more consecutive days in the same assignment) will be paid $132 per day with no benefits.
  • Certified substitutes (must hold a valid Florida educator certificate and be assigned for 10 or more consecutive days in the same assignment) will be paid $142 per day with no benefits.
