City hosting two public meetings this week on proposed golf cart map expansion

The City of Ocala is hosting two public meetings this week that will focus on the proposed expansion of the downtown golf cart map.

The meetings will be held on Thursday, August 18, at noon and 5:30 p.m., at the Brick City Center for the Arts located at 23 SW Broadway Street. The meetings are free and open to the public.

During both meetings, the proposed golf cart map expansion will be reviewed, and members of the community will be able to provide their input on the topic. City staff will also be in attendance to answer any questions.

The two sessions are available to accommodate the public, and the same information will be presented at both meetings. The city encourages downtown business owners, current golf cart permit holders, and those potentially impacted by this change to attend.

Residents can click here to see if they are currently in the golf cart area. According to the city, anyone operating a golf cart or low speed vehicle within the downtown area is required to register for a one-time permit at a cost of $30.

This registration fee is used to provide law enforcement with ownership information in the event of an accident or theft. A decal will be assigned to the golf cart and must be displayed on the left side of the vehicle.

To apply for a permit, visit the City of Ocala golf cart registration webpage to start the application process.
