A 38-year-old Ocala man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after he was accused of molesting a child.
On Monday, at approximately 6 p.m., MCSO deputies responded to the Golden Hills Mobile Home Park in Ocala after receiving a report that Rogelio Argote Munoz had molested a juvenile victim.
Upon further investigation, MCSO learned that Munoz had invited the juvenile victim to his home, and the child was allegedly lured into Munoz’s bedroom to feed baby chickens. Once inside the bedroom, Munoz allegedly exposed his genitals while rubbing against the victim.
The MCSO report indicated that Munoz allegedly proceeded to molest the victim and then attempted to sexually batter the victim. During an interview with investigators, the victim stated that similar incidents had previously occurred with Munoz, and the victim added that Munoz had claimed to have performed sexual acts with other children.
Munoz was taken into custody and an MCSO detective conducted an interview. After being read his Miranda rights, Munoz stated that the victim frequently would come over to his home to spend time with him. He told the detective that he regularly buys the victim gifts and takes the victim with him when he goes shopping.
During the interview, Munoz denied the allegations that he had molested and sexually battered the victim. While speaking with the detective, Munoz speculated that the victim may have made the accusations because he would not let the victim have one of his baby chickens.
Munoz was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $90,000 bond. He is facing felony charges for lewd or lascivious conduct, lewd or lascivious molestation on a victim less than 12 years of age, and attempted sexual battery on a victim less than 12 years of age.
A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, September 20 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
Due to the nature of these crimes and the defendant’s alleged statement that there are other victims, MCSO believes that Munoz may have victimized other children. If you have any information about sexual abuse perpetrated by Munoz, please call Detective Hartigan at 352-368-3535.
