A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after he traveled from Hawthorne to Fort McCoy to meet a 15-year-old child.

On Monday, August 8, MCSO was advised by a concerned parent that her juvenile daughter had been contacted by an adult man on Snapchat. The sheriff’s office conducted an investigation, and the man was identified as Troy Austin Odom.

According to MCSO, Odom was aware that he was messaging a 15-year-old child. An undercover MCSO detective began messaging Odom, and he still believed that he was communicating with the child.

While speaking with the undercover detective, Odom sent sexually explicit messages that graphically described the sexual acts that he hoped to perform with the child. He also stated that he wanted to meet the child in person.

Odom then proceeded to travel from Hawthorne to a predetermined location in Fort McCoy. When he arrived at the meeting location, he was apprehended by multiple MCSO units.

During an interview, Odom admitted to investigators that he had traveled from Hawthorne with the intention of having sex with the child.

Odom was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and he was later released on $7,000 bond. He is facing felony charges for traveling to meet a minor for sexual conduct and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, September 13 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
