Ocala man arrested after being accused of stealing two vehicles

A 36-year-old Ocala man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after he was accused of stealing two vehicles.

On Tuesday, MCSO deputies responded to the Circle K gas station located at 6820 SE Maricamp Road in reference to a stolen vehicle.

Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with a male victim who stated that he had parked his pickup truck in front of one of the gas pumps. The victim advised that he left the keys in the ignition and went inside the convenience store to pay for gas.

When the victim exited the convenience store, he noticed that his truck was no longer at the gas station.

MCSO deputies spoke with a store clerk who pulled up video surveillance footage from the time of the vehicle theft. According to the MCSO report, a man wearing a white shirt and blue shorts, later identified as Richard Wayne Klock, was observed entering the victim’s vehicle and driving away from the gas station.

The convenience store provided the deputies with a still image of Klock from the video surveillance footage.

While investigating the vehicle theft, MCSO received another call for service in reference to a vehicle crash near the 5000 block of SE Maricamp Road. When deputies arrived at the scene of the crash, they determined that the vehicle involved in the accident was the same vehicle that had been stolen from the Circle K.

No one was inside the vehicle and the deputies were unable to locate the driver.

A female witness told the deputies that she had observed a man matching Klock’s description attempting to gain access to a vehicle that was parked at the Paradise Inn located at 4596 SE Maricamp Road. She stated that she ran outside to stop him, but he was able to enter a 2003 Ford Explorer and began traveling southbound on 44th Avenue Road.

The second vehicle theft occurred approximately 500 yards from the location of the traffic accident.

The store clerk at the gas station contacted MCSO a short time after the accident and advised that Klock had returned to the store and was walking around the area.

Deputies located Klock in the 6800 block of SE Maricamp Road. The MCSO report indicated that Klock had multiple injuries, including an apparent road rash, fresh blood on his back, and an abrasion on his ankle.

When Klock spotted the deputies, he placed his hands behind his back. He was detained, his Miranda rights were read, and he advised that he did not want to speak with the deputies. During a pat-down search of Klock, the following items were located: the key to a Ford vehicle and a Ziploc bag containing a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana.

A computer search revealed that Klock had a relative who lived in the area. Deputies responded to the relative’s residence and located the stolen 2003 Ford Explorer in the front yard. An MCSO deputy was able to successfully lock and unlock the vehicle using the key that had been found in Klock’s pocket, according to the MCSO report.

Klock was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $8,000 bond. He is facing felony charges for grand theft of a motor vehicle (two counts) and a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana (20 grams or less).

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
