To the Editor:
I moved here to be near my daughter’s family. I lived in St. Pete Beach for over 30 years and had to put up with tourist traffic along with the locals. We also had our share of snowbirds. But that doesn’t come close to the traffic on SR 200.
When I moved here about six years ago, I was driving the same truck that I bought new back in 1998, and I had never had an accident until I started driving on SR 200. On a Sunday night at 8:30 p.m., a lady never touched her brakes, and I was rear-ended while stopped at a red light at the intersection with 60th Avenue. She was estimated to be going over 60 mph.
When you get a mix of seniors, regular people who still work, and the idiots who don’t seem to have anything to do but speed back and forth, weaving in and out of traffic while acting like they own the road, it is a nightmare.
Since I have moved here, I have seen gas station after gas station and car wash after car wash being built. Not to mention the high dollar car dealerships that have replaced the beautiful green fields and horse farms.
It seems like all the stupid building is like a disease that just won’t quit. It’s all about the politics and the money. If it wasn’t for my daughter and her family, I would probably be looking to move somewhere else, maybe back to the beach where it’s safer to drive.
