City of Ocala hosting waste amnesty day for electronics, hazardous waste items on September 10

The City of Ocala, in partnership with Green For Life, is hosting a waste amnesty day for electronics and hazardous waste items on Saturday, September 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The site for the annual collection event will be located at NE 14th Street and NE 8th Avenue.

Special waste consists of household hazardous waste and electronics. Neither of these types of waste is permitted to be picked up with the regularly scheduled residential waste collection.

Special waste from businesses will not be collected.

According to the city, previous collection days have resulted in approximately 30,000 pounds of materials remaining out of landfills and city water systems.

Examples of hazardous waste items that will be accepted are lawn and garden chemicals; paint, paint thinners, and gasoline; cleaning fluids; fluorescent bulbs; used oil and filters; auto batteries; pool chemicals; and aerosol cans.

Examples of electronic items that will be accepted are answering machines; battery chargers; computers, keyboards, and monitors; small copiers, printers, and fax machines; CD, DVD, and Blu-ray players; stereos and televisions; and cellphones, PDAs, and scanners.
