The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred on Saturday evening in a heavily wooded area between Citra and Orange Springs.
MCSO deputies responded to the scene of the crash, along with rescue personnel from Marion County Fire Rescue. In a social media post, MCSO stated that the two occupants inside the small private aircraft were both killed in the crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives are currently investigating the fatal crash with help from the MCSO Field Force unit.
“Due to the remote location of the crash site, MCSO Field Force responded to help investigators gain access to the site,” stated the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook webpage.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is expected to respond to the scene of the fatal crash to conduct an investigation.
The names of the plane’s two occupants have not been released.
