Two killed, one seriously injured after sedan crashes into SUV in Silver Springs

Two people were killed, and another person was seriously injured, after a sedan and sports utility vehicle collided on State Road 40 in Silver Springs on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the sedan was traveling eastbound on State Road 40, west of NE 14th Street Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report. The vehicle had two occupants – a 57-year-old woman (driver) and 63-year-old woman (passenger) who were both from Silver Springs.

The SUV’s driver, a 19-year-old woman from Ocala, was traveling westbound on State Road 40.

When both vehicles were near the 13500 block of State Road 40, the sedan “failed to maintain a single traffic lane,” veered north onto the continuous left turn lane, and proceeded to enter the westbound lane of traffic, according to the FHP report.

The accident then occurred when the front of the sedan crashed into the front left corner of the SUV.

The driver and passenger inside the sedan both sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was listed in serious condition.

After the accident, traffic in the area was temporarily detoured by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office by way of SE 24th Street Road and S Highway 314A while the Florida Highway Patrol responded to investigate the crash.

The names of those involved in the accident were not released by FHP.
