Charles C. Acker

Charles C. Acker went to be with his Lord September 8, 2022 at Harmony House of Ocala after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. The loving care he received from their staff and Hospice is much appreciated.

He was born to Stewart and Hattie Acker (Brown) in Brownville, Al. on 03-19-1940. He was a 1959 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School, Coker, Al. While there he excelled in football and track. He set record in track which remained for over 20 years.

He retired from the City of Bessemer, Al. in 1996. While there he served as a firefighter, an EMT and retired as Fire Marshall of Bessemer. He also retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Master Sergeant with over 20 years of service.

He was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Acker (Whitley) for almost 60 years. They moved to Florida in 1999 and enjoyed their retirement. As an avid golfer he had 5 holes-in-one to his credit. He and Dorothy both enjoyed frequent cruises. He also enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing.

He was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Summerfield, Fl.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his son Scott Acker (Renee) of Marietta, Ga, grandchildren Christopher Acker (Haley) of Covington, Ga. and Laura Acker of Tuscaloosa, Al., great grandchildren Eliana and Benedict Acker of Covington, Ga., brothers Keith Acker (Debra) and David Acker (Monica) both of Tuscaloosa, Al., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents, sister Bessie Mills, and brothers Hubert Acker, Morris Acker and Douglas Acker.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October, 8 at 11 AM with luncheon following at Trinity Lutheran Church in Summerfield, Florida. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Friday, November 18 at 1:30 PM.
