A 25-year-old man was killed on Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed into a sedan at an intersection in Ocala.
On Saturday, September 24, at approximately 3 p.m., a gray sedan being driven by a 49-year-old Ocala man was traveling eastbound on SE 31st Street. A 25-year-old Ocala man riding a yellow motorcycle was also heading westbound on SE 31st Street.
Both vehicles were traveling in the inside lane as they approached the SE 36th Avenue intersection. According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the sedan proceeded to turn left into the intersection, which brought the vehicle directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist attempted to slow down and veered the motorcycle to the right. The FHP report states that these actions caused the front of the motorcycle to collide with the rear left side of the sedan at the intersection of SE 31st Street and SE 36th Avenue.
When the sedan came to a final rest, it was in the outside northbound lane of SE 36th Avenue. The motorcycle came to a final rest in the grass median of SE 31st Street to the west of the intersection.
The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The sedan’s driver and sole occupant had minor injuries following the collision.
The names of those involved in the accident were not released by FHP.
