Resident wants increased police presence on local roads

To the Editor:

I agree 100% with the recent letter regarding the traffic issue on State Road 200. Traffic will get worse with all the new developments being built, but I have seen worse in other parts of Florida.

I rarely ever see a police officer on 200, and I have never seen any traffic stops in my six-plus years living here in the On Top of the World community. I can hear cars racing every day on 200 from my home, and if there was an officer stationed in the area, that would definitely make these reckless and careless motorists drive better.

They drive this way because they know they can get away with it because anything goes around here. They constantly speed, tailgate, zigzag through traffic, and drive unsafe vehicles.

Just the other week, I saw a contractor with an old pickup and no tailgate leaving my community, and he made a right turn onto 200 so fast and careless that two 5-gallon buckets flew off his truck, spilling nuts, bolts, and screws all over the intersection.

As a taxpayer, I feel those of us in this southwest area are being neglected. We deserve to have our roads kept safe and bad drivers punished. I don’t know what the problem is, but we need some police presence in this area.
