Dunnellon resident discusses lack of internet service providers

To the Editor:

As a resident of Rainbow Lakes Estates, all of the residents here, including myself, are frustrated and very disappointed with the lack of internet service providers.

In today’s world, reliable internet is a necessity, not a luxury. With more and more homes being built in our development, along with the residents who have been here for years, there is an increased need for reliable internet.

I’m just thankful I don’t have a school-aged child who needs the internet for homework. No child should have to leave the comfort of their home to go to a parking lot to get internet for their homework or fail classes because they can’t access the internet.

Come on, internet companies, this is 2022 – every home should have access to internet as readily as electricity and running water.

What we do not understand is when we complain to these companies, their answer is always, “It’s too expensive to run the lines.” What they don’t understand is if they would spend the money up front to install these lines (they have this kind of money), they would have almost every resident signing up for the service, which in turn would provide their initial money spent plus a profit every month.

As this town grows, the amenities seem stagnant. Something must be done to address this problem, not only in Rainbow Lakes Estates, but in the surrounding developments and areas as well.
