A woman was killed on Friday morning after two vehicles struck her while she was crossing SW Archer Road in Gainesville.

At approximately 6:45 a.m., two sedans were traveling eastbound on SW Archer Road in the inside lane. As the vehicles approached the intersection of SW 63rd Avenue, an unidentified Black woman stepped onto the roadway and began walking southbound across SW Archer Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that both vehicles proceeded through the green light at the intersection. The driver of the first vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Gainesville, spotted the pedestrian and attempted to avoid a collision by braking and swerving his vehicle.

While traveling at low speeds, the driver of the first sedan was unable to avoid a collision, and the vehicle made minor contact with the pedestrian. After being struck by the first vehicle, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway.

The driver of the second sedan, a 55-year-old woman from Gainesville, was unaware that the pedestrian was on the roadway, and her vehicle struck the pedestrian, according to the FHP report.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol, and the pedestrian has not yet been identified.
