A two-vehicle crash on County Road 329 in Marion County killed one person and seriously injured four others, including two babies, on Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, a 49-year-old man from Mount Dora was traveling in the westbound lane of County Road 329, east of NW 18th Road, and he was negotiating a curve to the right, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report. He was the sole occupant of the sedan.
At the same time, a van was traveling in the eastbound lane of County Road 329, west of NW 18th Avenue. The FHP report stated that the van’s driver was a 40-year-old Reddick woman, and the vehicle had three passengers who were also from Reddick: a 21-year-old woman, a baby boy, and a 1-year-old girl.
According to FHP, the sedan veered to the right, partially drifted onto the northbound shoulder, and the driver overcorrected to the left. As a result, the sedan traveled across the westbound lane while rotating counterclockwise, and the vehicle entered into the eastbound lane of County Road 329, directly into the path of the van.
FHP stated that the front of the van crashed into the right side of the sedan. After the impact, both vehicles came to a final rest, and the accident blocked the eastbound lane of County Road 329.
The driver of the sedan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. All four occupants of the van were listed in serious condition.
The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
