Donna was born in Louisville, KY to Robert ‘Smitty’ and Marie Smith. Both parents along with a sister, Susan, and brother, James, predeceased her. Older sister Susan and younger brother Jimmy both died due to complications of Cystic Fibrous. Donna was blessed as she never had issues with the disease and was not a carrier
Donna attended Roman Catholic grade school and high school in Louisville, KY. She graduated high school from Holy Rosary Academy with the Class of 1972.
Donna was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma in late September 2022.
Donna was very secure in her Christian faith. She accepted Jesus Christ into her life over ten years ago while a member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Louisville, KY. At St. Francis, Donna was very involved with the Daughters of the King ministry and Pastoral Care ministry. She was an avid tennis player, many times golden retriever “mom” and a Mahjong teacher. Donna discovered an artistic talent after retirement. Her hand-painted cards were a delight. But, it was her quick wit and magnetic smile that drew in many lasting friendships.
In January 2022, Donna and her husband, Bob, realized a long time dream of moving back to Florida. They made Ocala, FL their new home moving into a very active 55+ community.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Donna’s name to Hospice of Marion County (https://www.hospiceofmarion.com/) or American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/).
