Ocala woman arrested after allegedly threatening female victim with axe

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 60-year-old Ocala woman after she allegedly threatened to harm a female victim with an axe.

On Saturday, November 19, an MCSO deputy responded to a residence in the 100 block of Cedar Road in Ocala in reference to a verbal disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the homeowner, Patrice La Shon Burley.

Burley told the deputy that she wanted the female victim to leave the residence because she believed that the victim’s child had broken a water pipe.

The deputy made contact with the victim who stated that Burley was accusing her child of breaking the water pipe. The victim stated that her child was currently residing with another individual and had not visited Burley’s residence “in a while.”

According to the victim, the incident with Burley occurred when the victim was in the process of moving her belongings out of the residence. While the victim was inside a bedroom, she stated that Burley stood in the middle of the doorway while holding an axe.

The victim claimed that Burley had carried the axe over her head “in an offensive posture,”  and she had allegedly threatened to kill the victim. As a result, the victim stated that she feared for her life.

The deputy returned to Burley. While she admitted that she stood in the middle of the doorway with an axe during the incident, she claimed that the axe was hidden behind her leg.

In the MCSO report, the deputy noted that the victim had called law enforcement during the incident, and the deputy listened to an audio recording of that call. On that recording, the deputy heard Burley say, “I will kill someone today.” The deputy also heard the victim yell, “She has an axe.”

The deputy located the axe, which had a foot-long handle, and it was collected for evidence.

Burley was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $5,000 bond. She is facing a felony charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, December 20 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
