Marion County Sheriff’s Office to host safety class for teen drivers in February

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free driver’s safety class for local teenagers next month, and registration is open.

The Teen Driver’s Challenge will take place on Saturday, February 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the class is for young drivers (ages 15 to 19) who have a learner’s permit or driver’s license with at least six months of driving experience.

Participants will meet across the street from Well Bilt Industries (3001 SW 67th Avenue in Ocala). According to MCSO, the class will consist of classroom instruction and vehicle operations that are designed to help upcoming teenage drivers be safe on the roadways.

During the class, participating teens will learn about topics that include teenage crash facts, drug and alcohol use, aggressive driving and road rage, threshold/emergency braking, backing, cornering, evasive maneuvers, and more.

Since driving is the leading cause of death among teenagers, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is committed to doing everything possible to reduce their chances of being involved in a traffic accident.

To enroll in the upcoming class, visit the Teen Driver Challenge webpage and fill out the forms that are provided there. Some of these forms will need to be notarized.
