(Update on January 30, 2023: Due to low participation, the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department has canceled the GRIT Strength Challenge).
An annual team-based strength and fitness competition will return to Ocala in February.
The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with CrossFit Iron Legion, will host the GRIT Strength Challenge on Saturday, February 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fort King National Historic Landmark located at 3925 E Fort King Street.

During the outdoor event, participants will compete in three-person teams, and they will utilize primitive objects that were available during the Florida Seminole War period of 1817 through 1858.

The recreation and parks department stated that the teams will go head-to-head in “some of the toughest, grittiest, and most gnarly challenges.” Each of these challenges will be based on time-period skills, practices, and challenges that were faced by soldiers and settlers in the 1800s.
The GRIT Strength Challenge is open to the public and there is no entry fee for spectators. During the event, food, beverages, and merchandise will be available to purchase.
