5-year-old boy dies after being hit by truck in Alachua County

A 5-year-old boy died in Alachua County on Friday morning after he was hit by a pickup truck while attempting to cross the street.

Shortly before 7:15 a.m., a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling northbound on Hipp Way near NW 133rd Terrace in the city of Alachua, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

At the same time, the 5-year-old boy was at the crosswalk at the intersection. When he attempted to walk across the roadway, he stepped into the path of the pickup truck, and the front of the vehicle collided with him.

After the collision, the boy was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital where he later passed away due to his injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, a 30-year-old man from Alachua, remained at the scene of the crash and was not injured.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
