Dunnellon Duck Race heads to Rainbow River this weekend

The Dunnellon Duck Race is set to return to the Rainbow River on Saturday, January 28.

The annual event, which is hosted by the Dunnellon Chamber and Business Association in conjunction with several nonprofit organizations, will begin at 9 a.m. on the Rainbow River at Swampy’s Bar & Grille, which is located at 19773 E Pennsylvania Avenue in Dunnellon.

There are 500 ducks available for purchase, as well as 75 modified ducks. Each modified duck may be decorated and painted, though they may not be altered for a competitive advantage.

Individual ducks can be adopted for $25, two for $45, or a dozen for $265. Modified ducks can be purchased for $35 each.

According to the Dunnellon Chamber and Business Association, there are still a few ducks that need to be adopted. Anyone wanting to adopt a duck must do so by no later than Thursday, January 26.

During the event, the following prizes will be up for grabs:

  • 1st Place: A two-night stay at the Guy Harvey Resort in St. Augustine.
  • 2nd Place: A gift basket valued at $200.
  • 3rd Place: A gift basket valued at $100.
  • Modified 1st Place: A $50 cash prize.

In addition to duck purchases, multiple organizations are accepting donations for the event, including the Greater Dunnellon Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Dunnellon Chamber and Business Association, Believe in Santa Foundation, Wil-Power Foundation, and Family Hope Resource & Pregnancy Center.
