Pedestrian dies after being struck by car on I-75 in Marion County

A pedestrian died early Monday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to walk across Interstate 75 in Marion County.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., a red Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on I-75 in the inside lane at mile marker 362, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report. The vehicle had two occupants: a 33-year-old woman (driver) and 32-year-old man (passenger), both from Orlando.

At the same time, a white male was walking from west to east across the southbound lanes of I-75, according to FHP. His age was not specified in the report.

FHP stated that the pedestrian proceeded to walk into the direct path of the Mustang, which caused the vehicle’s front end to collide with him. After the collision, the Mustang came to a controlled rest in the center southbound lane of I-75.

The pedestrian came to a final rest in the inside southbound lane. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Mustang’s two occupants were not injured in the accident.
