Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy helps resident after vehicle runs over mattress on Highway 441

A Marion County resident and cancer survivor recently reached out to the sheriff’s office to thank a deputy who helped her when a large item became lodged under her vehicle on U.S. Highway 441.

On October 22, 2022, the resident was traveling on U.S. Highway 441 when her truck ran over a twin mattress that had been left in the middle of the roadway. The resident quickly realized that the mattress was stuck under her vehicle and she pulled over on the side of the road.

The resident informed MCSO that Deputy Christopher Pope saw her and pulled over as well to assist with removing the mattress from under her truck.

“I am so thankful he took the time to help me, for I am a cancer survivor and am not supposed to lift a lot of weight with my left arm,” said the appreciative resident. “I would have never gotten it out by myself. Please thank him again for me. We need more people like him in the world.”

On its Facebook page, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Thank you, Deputy Pope, for your shining example of how MCSO serves the citizens of Marion County in many different ways. Your dedication to your profession is greatly appreciated.”
