Ocala seeks company to operate cafe inside Mary Sue Rich Community Center

The City of Ocala is currently seeking a qualified company to lease and operate a cafe inside the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place.

The request for proposals and qualifications is currently posted through the City of Ocala’s Procurement and Contracting Office, and it runs through 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8.

According to the scope of work outlined in the request, the 185 square-foot cafe area is intended to provide healthy and affordable grab-and-go or quick-service breakfast, lunch, and beverage options for the daily users of the community center. The cafe will include a takeout counter with limited indoor and outdoor seating, and the cafe’s operator will have access to a shared 965 square-foot commercial kitchen.

The request states that at least 50% of the menu’s entrees must include healthy options for breakfast and lunch. The menu may include static entrees along with daily or weekly off-menu special items, and the final menu must include nutritional information such as the total number of calories.

The suggested food items for the menu include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Beverages: coffee, tea, juices, healthy smoothies, breakfast beverages, and bottled drinks.
  • Breakfast: sandwiches, wraps, fresh fruit, and grab-and-go cereals.
  • Lunch: sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, and fresh fruit.

In addition to the cafe, the Mary Sue Rich Community Center (1821 NW 21st Avenue in Ocala) includes a 390-seat banquet hall, two full-court basketball courts, an indoor walking track, a fitness area, three multi-purpose rooms, a senior program room, a branch of the Marion County Public Library, two huddle meeting rooms, and a banquet hall.

The Mary Sue Rich Community Center’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.), Saturday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and Sunday (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.). The facility will be closed on most major holidays.
