Gerard Walter Baus

Gerard Walter Baus

Gerard Walter (Jerry) Baus passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Monday, February 20, 2023, at his home in Ocala, FL. He was 63. The third child of seven of the late Charles T. and Adele M. Baus, Jerry was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised on Long Island. He graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed postgraduate studies at Dowling College. He held a number of positions in education, retail management, and hospitality services before retiring in Ocala.

Jerry was an avid sports fan starting as a New York Mets fan at a young age and more recently supporting the Tampa Bay Rays. He enjoyed traveling to games, historic sites, sports museums, and visiting family. A great reader, he was fond of fantasy fiction, thrillers, mysteries, police procedurals, and historic non-fiction. Jerry was an accomplished cook and shared his enthusiasm for a well-prepared meal.

Often loud, Jerry had a big laugh and a much bigger heart. He was generous, loving, forgiving, and resilient. He moved through the changes of his life with grace and a steady belief in goodness. Although he had a habit of repeating the same “glory days” stories, we would give anything to have him sit beside us and tell us one again.

Jerry leaves behind his six siblings (Thomas, Theresa, Mary, Patricia, Robert, and Barbara) and nine nieces and nephews (Joel, Holly, Margaret, Joseph, MaryBeth, Bryant, James, Brandon, and Nicholas). He is survived by his wife Ingrid.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of Marion County and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
