Ocala man with no license arrested after fleeing from MCSO corporal

A 63-year-old Ocala man was arrested after he fled from a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal who had observed him running a stop sign.

On Tuesday, the corporal was conducting surveillance in the area of Marion Oaks Boulevard when a white Chevrolet pickup truck was observed exiting the parking lot of the Dollar General located at 198 Marion Oaks Boulevard in Ocala, according to the MCSO report.

The corporal noted in the report that the pickup truck drove past the stop sign without stopping and turned left onto SW 143rd Place Road. The corporal caught up to the pickup truck near the intersection of SW 143rd Place Road and SW 36th Avenue Road, and the vehicle turned right onto SW 36th Avenue Road.

During the turn onto SW 36th Avenue Road, the corporal observed that the pickup truck drifted onto the wrong side of the road and began traveling in the oncoming lane. When the pickup truck turned left onto SW 36th Court, the corporal activated the patrol car’s emergency lights and signaled for the vehicle to pull over, according to the MCSO report.

The driver of the vehicle – later identified as Vincent Armando Rivera – refused to stop, and he continued traveling on SW 36th Court. He proceeded to turn left onto SW 34th Terrace Road, and the corporal activated the patrol car’s siren.

The pickup truck continued accelerating down SW 34th Terrace Road and then turned right onto Marion Oaks Lane without stopping at the posted stop sign at the intersection, according to the MCSO report.

The corporal noted in the report that the pickup truck continued on Marion Oaks Lane before turning left onto SW 35th Avenue Road. After a right turn onto SW 149th Lane and a left turn onto SW 150th Lane Road, the vehicle came to a stop in front of a residence located in the 3400 block of SW 150th Lane Road.

Rivera followed the corporal’s orders and exited the vehicle with his hands in the air. He was detained in handcuffs.

After being read his Miranda rights, Rivera advised that he has type 2 diabetes and requires insulin. When asked if he was experiencing a medical emergency or required medical attention related to his diabetes, Rivera told the corporal that he “felt fine,” according to the MCSO report.

The corporal noted in the report that the pickup truck did not belong to Rivera. During the post-Miranda interview, Rivera stated that “what he did was stupid,” and he advised that he had refused to stop the pickup truck because he did not want the vehicle to be towed.

A records check of Rivera revealed that he only has an identification card and does not possess a driver’s license.

Rivera was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and he was later released on $5,500 bond. He is facing a felony charge for fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor charge for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
