Woman arrested in Silver Springs after fentanyl found in purse during traffic stop

A 33-year-old Summerfield woman was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after fentanyl was found inside her purse during a traffic stop in Silver Springs.

On Wednesday, shortly after 3:20 a.m., an MCSO sergeant observed a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer with no tag attached to it. The sergeant conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle at the Sunoco gas station located at 5245 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Silver Springs, according to the MCSO report.

The MCSO report stated that the sergeant made contact with the unidentified male driver of the pickup truck, and the sergeant asked for permission to search the vehicle. The driver consented to the search and the following items were located inside the pickup truck:

  • A “bong” on the rear passenger seat.
  • A purse containing a wallet with multiple credit cards belonging to a female passenger.
  • A gray box inside the purse containing loaded syringes and a dark powdery substance that field-tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.

The pickup truck’s female passenger was identified in the MCSO report as Rebekah Anne McManuels.

An MCSO deputy arrived at the scene of the traffic stop and made contact with McManuels. After being read her Miranda rights, she advised that everything in the vehicle was hers and did not belong to the driver.

During the post-Miranda interview, McManuels also admitted that the gray box containing the dark powdery substance belonged to her. She told the deputy that the substance was either “heroin or Subutex,” according to the MCSO report.

McManuels was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and she was later released on $3,000 bond. She is facing a felony charge for possession of fentanyl and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
